How to resist in front of a soft and fragrant orange loaf , perhaps freshly baked? The original Sicilian recipe with the blender , which is prepared with blended oranges, in fact - has something extra. In short, not the usual orange cake , but a dessert with an intense - for some bitter , for others unsurpassable - flavor of the perfect citrus fruit to be enjoyed at breakfast or as a snack. The classic grandmother's recipe capable of spreading a delicious smell throughout the house, practically attracting every sweet tooth that is around.

The original recipe of Sicilian orange bread

There is no need for big premises but a simple note: for this recipe the oranges must be strictly organic.

Ingredients

  • 1 large organic orange of 250/300 gr
  • 300 g of 00 flour
  • 250 g of sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 125 ml of seed oil
  • 60ml of water
  • 1 sachet of baking powder for desserts
  • 1 pinch of salt

Preparation

To prepare orange bread without butter with blended oranges, proceed as follows

  1. Wash the orange well, dry it and cut it into pieces.
  2. Collect it in the blender and blend it well by adding the water. You will have to obtain a rather smooth puree.
  3. Now pour the eggs into a bowl and whisk them with the sugar until the mixture is swollen and clear.
  4. Add the orange puree and the oil alternating them with the sifted flour with baking powder and salt.
  5. Mix everything well until you get a homogeneous mixture. Pour it into a round or donut-shaped mold of about 24 cm previously greased with oil and floured.
  6. Transfer to a preheated oven and cook at 180°C for about 40 minutes (carry out the toothpick test to check that it is cooked).
  7. Let the orange bread cool completely before removing it from the mould. Dust it with powdered sugar if you like and enjoy.

The variants of orange bread

As often happens with the recipes of Sicilian cuisine , it is also possible to create different variations of this one that respond to as many needs. Here are some.

Bimby orange loaf

The Bimby orange loaf can be made, in fact, with the famous food processor. In this case the oranges themselves can be blended with its blades, then you can proceed with the rest of the recipe, which becomes even faster.

Orange loaf with yoghurt

A richer version involves adding yogurt , which you can combine instead of water and part of the oil: it will give a pleasant touch of freshness.

Orange loaf with chocolate drops

But the orange bread with chocolate chips remains one of the most delicious variations. Just add 50 to 100 - if you really want to go overboard - grams of drops to the dough.

Conservation of Sicilian orange bread

The Sicilian orange cake (or ring-shaped cake, depending on the mold chosen), can be kept soft and delicious for a few days inside the special glass bell jar or, in any case, covered with transparent food film.
